“ Number Better, everything you would want in a bakery. Attentive service and an awesome selection. ”
“ Great baked product. Excellent counter service and very patient. Cute little store front that is well kept and very inviting. ”
“ The best bakery around! Consistently excellent quality and fair prices. A true neighborhood gem in a sleepy stretch of Scotch Plains. Amazing rugelach, challah, almond horns, fresh donuts, all types of danishes, and apple fritters!! The baker is a lovely man and has made several fancy occasion cakes (milestone birthday and my baby shower cake - which was tiered and essentially a wedding cake and exactly what I wanted). The actual CAKE of his cakes is excellent. There is no skimping on ingredient quality here. Both buttercream and whipped cream frostings are delicious. Friendly service always. The lines out the door on the weekend speak for themselves. Get there early for hot donuts. My only wish was that they made black and white cookies. EDIT: Stopped by today and they have black and white and they are divine. They have that hint of lemon cookie. ”
“ Recently popped in on a weekend to get some cupcakes. Amazing mom and pop style bakery! Cupcakes were delicious- my husband especially liked the mocha icing one. I've recently been on a croissant kick and theirs were to die for-buttery goodness! Excited to try their other sweet treats! ”
“ Hands down, some of THE BEST cinnamon sugar donuts I've ever had. ”
“ I think the place should be called Jewish Bakery Shoppe because their Challah, Rye bread and especially their rugelach are AMAZING. Bread and sweets almost melt in your mouth. OTOH, at various times I've tried their cookies, cakes and cupcakes and always found them dry and unimpressive. ”
“ this bakery is like a beautiful bountiful classic hometown bakery as per all the reviews everything is delicious! it seems like it's been there for ever! the raisin scones are thick moist chewy slightly sweet with plump moist raisins the challah is yellow buttery eggy moist pull apart heaven donuts sugary plump moist stick to your fingers just moved to Scotch Plains can't wait to go back and try everything a real treasure! ”
“ Boo boo and I were headed to the plainfield donut shop but they are closed on Sundays so stopped by here to bring some items for breakfast. There was a short line before entering. We were overwhelmed with the options but we got box of donuts, an apple turnover, 2 chocolate rugulas, 2 raspberry rugulas and 2 bagels. We took a bite out of everything and think the best items are the coffee roll donut and the chocolate rugulas. The glaze for the coffee roll is was light. We wishes the display case was labelled. We felt bad asking the nice lady if they had a certain item or what was this item. Credit card and apple accepted ”
“ WOW!WOW!WOW! The apple turnover alone is worth a drive to this fabulous bakery!!! Not only is it huge, it's DELICIOUS!!! Also tried the cheese danish and old fashioned donut. Everything was wonderful. All those pastries and three coffee's for $12!!!! You can tell when food is cooked with love and there is a lot of love in this beautiful food. Well Done! PS- Charlie the bernadoodle also tried the danish and loved it! ”
“ This bakery is a Scotch Plains institution. It has been owned and operated by the Cioffi family for over 30 years. Prior to that, Mr. Cioffi was the head pastry chef at Sardi's restaurant in NYC. Now, John, his son Robert, and staff work very hard to bake some of the most delectable treats you'll find anywhere. They are famous for their rugalach, flaky butter pastries rolled with raisins and apricot or raspberry jam, cinnamon and walnuts, or chocolate chunks. At eight to a pound, these little jewels pack a sweet punch, and will put a smile on anyone's face. Their cheese, cherry, apricot, prune, and pecan danish pastries are culinary works of art, and their doughnuts and muffins are picture-perfect. There is always a diverse variety of cakes available, although perhaps some are not the best. However, butter cookies, which are typically dry and crumbly at many Italian bakeries, always taste fresh here. With all the bagel bakeries around here, you might not expect their bagels to be special, but they are. They are shiny and slightly crisp on the outside, and wonderfully chewy on the inside. I'm a bagel connoisseur, and, unlike many cardboard-flavored bagels, these have a subtle, yeasty flavor like a hot soft pretzel. Swiss Pastry Shoppe also bakes a small variety of breads and rolls fresh daily. I like their pumpernickel and challah breads. You will also find seasonal holiday specialties here, like panettone, and beautiful Christmas stollen. ”
